Elanko
Gedrukt boek
TURKS - "Some encounters are different. While waiting for the rain to stop, without even realizing it, as his eyes slowly prepared to close, Elanko hears a voice. Someone from the tree, among the leaves, is calling out to him. Soon, the owner of the mysterious voice and Elanko start chatting, trying to get to know each other. The voice in the tree surprises Elanko with intriguing questions. Who could be the owner of this voice? A tiny, curious story like Elanko, resembling the voice in the tree, about self-discovery and the love of questions... From little elephant Elanko to adult readers: Can we claim to know someone whose name, schools attended, and profession we know, but whose favorite color, scent, song, and favorite games we are unaware of? Is it possible to break free from societal roles, forms, and goals when describing ourselves? If we can break free, what remains? The journey to self-discovery begins with asking oneself questions... ""Would you like some peanuts?"" a voice asked. The tree was so full of leaves that Elanko couldn't tell where the voice was coming from. As he looked through the leaves, he replied, ""No, thank you."" This time, the voice asked, ""What's your name?"" ""Elanko..."" ""Tell me, Elanko, who are you?"" ""I'm an African elephant."" ""I didn't ask where you're from,"" said the voice from the tree, laughing. ""Down by the edge of the lake, there's a herd of elephants, right? Well, I'm the youngest one among them."" ""Is that all?"" ""No,"" said Elanko proudly. ""Do you know Dimya? Everyone around here knows her. I'm Dimya's sibling."" ""And you? Do they know you?"" ""Families are like that,"" Elanko said with a sigh. ""What about you? What do you do?"" he asked toward the tree. ""I hug the highest branch I can climb to every morning. I first gaze down for a long time, then contemplate what I see. Those who see me standing on a branch and contemplating think I'm observing the surroundings, but it's not true. While contemplating, I only contemplate; I don't do anything else."" ""Is thinking a job?"" Elanko asked in astonishment. ""What are you thinking? Is it a job?"" The sloth, even in answering, was asking a question, confusing Elanko's mind."
